40 YEARS OF GSX-R PERFORMANCE
It began in 1985 with the GSX-R750 and now this latest GSX-R continues the high-performance legacy with a 1,000cc, four-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC, inline engine that is built to perform, both on the track and the road. It delivers high-performance and even more too, its reliability and winning potential have earned this model its enviable reputation in world endurance racing.
DESIGNED TO PERFORM
The GSX-R1000R uses thin-wall, hollow camshafts operating light, F1-style pivoting finger followers. The lighter moving mass of these fingers allows maximum engine rpm and valve lift to be increased while improving valve response and maintaining accurate valve control.
RESPONSIVE CHASSIS
Compact, light and rigid, the twin-spar aluminium frame is built to deliver agile handling and great road holding ability. The bolt-on rear subframe is made of strong, light square aluminium tube sections. Braced on both sides, the strong aluminium swingarm contributes to mechanical traction and provides the strength to withstand the demands of track use and sporty road riding.
LAUNCH CONTROL
This system makes it easier for a racer to get a good start in closed-course competition by automatically limiting engine rpm and optimising torque delivery while the rider holds the throttle twist grip wide open and concentrates on feeding in the clutch lever. Launch control is activated using a switch on the right handlebar. The system then monitors throttle twist grip position, throttle valve position, engine rpm, gear position, front wheel speed and rear wheel speed.
