Rider Training

Riding motorcycles is one of the best pastimes and good fun, can save you money as well as making your journey to work take less time and more enjoyable.

Riding a motorcycle correctly and safely is a skill, a skill you can be taught at Marriott´s. We would like to see all of our pupils become O.A.P´s.

John Hazler, Chief Instructor has 47 years riding motorcycles experience. He is former D.S.A (driving standards agency) examiner, driver improvement observer, he is advanced for cars, bikes and H.G.V, for I.A.M, R.O.S.P.A, Diamond advanced groups and also an advanced examiner.

John and his team of instructors are only too pleased to help people become safe riders. Marriott´s first time pass rate currently stands at 96%

The CBT is a day´s course, 9.15 or until the instructor is happy with your riding and you are safe on the road. The CBT will consist of the following:

  • TALK about safety, helmets, clothing and weather protection
  • EYE sight check
  • CONTROLS using stand and basic maintenance
  • RIDING position, starting engine, moving off and stopping safely
  • RIDING around the compound in figure of eights – U rides –emergency stops – turning left and right – gear changing – using mirror and signals correctly
  • We will then have a talk on traffic – signs –observations – awareness and anticipation – road position – separation distance – defensive riding.

When the CBT instructor is happy with your progress he will take you out on the road. You will be in radio contact with the instructor for a minimum of two hours. After the road ride if you have been riding safely you will receive a DL196 certificate.

This will validate your provisional bike licence. The CBT is not a TEST but you will need to be riding safely. You can then ride with L-plates, D-plated in Wales, these are to be displayed on the front and rear of your bike, you are not permitted to use the motorway and you cannot take a pillion on the back.
